  • The $72M, five storey Centre for Discovery and Learning is approximately 350,000 ft2 in gross building area. The top two storeys of the building house a 55,000 ft2 genomics R&D facility and commercial incubator that conducts life science research with the ultimate goal of applying new molecular technologies, instrumentation and bioinformatics to the identification, prevention and amelioration of disease;
  • OPM was retained to provide Project Management services during the extensive pre-construction phase of the project with the expressed intent that McMaster staff would take over management responsibilities once the progress of the project was well established during the construction phase.  OPM organized and managed the various and diverse user committees in the development of all functional programming.  OPM prepared the project budget and schedule, created and executed the RFP process in assembling the Project Team including all design consultants, cost consultant and construction manager. OPM managed the design development and ongoing value analysis processes throughout the pre-construction phase. OPM also oversaw all trade contractor tendering and negotiations and the start-up of construction during site preparation, foundation work and the commencement of the superstructure;
  • The project was successfully completed within schedule and budget.
