  • OPM was retained by the City of Toronto to establish, lead and manage the project team in the development of a visitor interpretive centre to enhance the educational experience of visiting Fort York. The building component of the project encompasses a total GFA of 25,000 ft2 and a project budget of $15.5M. The project is funded by the City of Toronto, the Canadian Heritage Fund and private fundraising through the Fort York Foundation and is scheduled to complete in time for the upcoming commemoration ceremonies of the War of 1812’s bicentennial in 2012;
  • It is the City's intent to create a prominent physical presence to attract visitor attention and signify new happenings at Fort York; The Visitor Centre will provide an orientation experience for visitors to Fort York to assist them with interpreting what they are about to see and participate in on site; The facility will provide visitor’s with a more functional centre providing food services, gift shop, washrooms and multi-purpose space to enhance the visitor’s overall experience of Fort York;
  • The facility will also provide more useable space to accommodate existing and new visitor programming as well as encouraging after hours community use of facilities.
